Artistic director: virginie viardplace: the grand palais in paris transformed into a large circular library, which represents karl lagerfeld and gabrielle chanel’s passion for books.collection: a fresh take on the chanel codes by virginie viard for her first couture collection, now solely responsible for the artistic direction of chanel since the death of karl lagerfeld. elegance, gracefulness and sweetness for this new autumn/winter 2019/20 haute couture collection. elongated silhouettes, which unbutton, tweed that shines, black and white and touches of fluorescence. chanel’s dna is revisited with cinched waists, collars, loose trousers paired with small, fitted jackets.suits or dresses are worn with flat shoes. feathers, ruched chiffon adorn the wrists or hems of some of the looks. we find knots on the shoulders of a black, velvet, vestal dress, or on a neckline but also on the two-toned richelieu shoes with heels. as evening goes on, the dresses get more voluminous in monochrome colours and iridescent sheens.to note: kaia gerber in a fluorescent suit, reading glasses are the new must-have accessory to walk in the chanel bookstore and low ponytails worn by this new type of modern woman. with interviews from:bruno pavlovsky: we come back to chanel’s story, we can see miss chanel, karl’s work, and the touch of virginie viard. and what is important is that she is capable of bringing the brand to another level, of successfully rewriting a milestone in the brand’s story.she knows chanel more than anyone else, and so more than ever, she was the person who could continue to write the story of the brand.caroline de maigret:i found the collection to be one of grace, elegance and even of a crazy sensuality. there was a sweetness…it is a bit like gabrielle chanel’s library mixed with that of karl lagerfeld, and also translates virginie viard’s library, i just found that amazing.there was a feeling of tranquillity and delight. i liked the collars which reminded me of gabrielle chanel and, above all, i am a fan of velvet. there were long, black, velvet dresses which worked…. it was extremely elegant.show music (only use in the context of the show, protected by the right to information)
