Derek Lam Women's Fall/Winter 2014/15 Collection in New York (itw)

For many seasons now, Derek Lam has presented his collections inside the celebrated Sean Kelly Gallery in Manhattan. This large room, with its concrete floors, white walls and intimate atmosphere perfectly highlight the outfits on the runway. As usual, cuts are as clear and precise. An element of softness is added to the various selections of coats, jackets and dresses through the incorporation of boucles. Shades of white and pastel pink emerge first, giving way to stronger tones such as bottle green or caramel. Notice the designer’s trademark materials, including leather or suede, particularly on a perfect black jumpsuit.Interview:Derek Lam:I think it was especially important for the fall that it wasn’t too light or too springlike, that it had to have a twist to make you want to look twice. Everything really goes back to greys and blacks easily. What is amazing with all the boucles especially on the coats is that there is a lurex in it so it gives it a sense of throwing back light because sometimes boucle can absorb a lot of light and become very dark and heavy so this was a really special, modern technique to do the boucle. The energy is about all the movement in the dresses, the subtle sexiness and then the gold is just a highlight. For me, working with leather and suede and all the skins, there is a sensual quality about these materials that lends itself to clothing so well. It has structure but it has movement and it breathes with the body which I really love as well.Music free : Bandit & Nikit-2012
